Developed through our own product innovation, this groundbreaking solution expands the possibilities of ecological solid wood building and is also well suited to particularly demanding weather conditions.

NEW: SOLID WOOD IN A VERTICAL DIRECTION

Vertical™ renews the traditional understanding of solid wood construction. In this innovative structure, solid wood is placed in its natural growth direction – vertically.

The solution creates a distinctive new visual language for solid wood architecture. The vertical lines continue across the wall surface, reflecting the natural character of trees in the forest and bringing a new sense of rhythm, height and atmosphere to the interior.

“Trees naturally grow upright. With Vertical™, wood is used in its natural direction, making the solution both technically and architecturally interesting. We wanted to develop a product that brings the atmosphere of the forest into the building in an entirely new way,” says Mikko Vainionpää, family entrepreneur.

A NATURALLY NON-SETTLING STRUCTURE

Thanks to its vertical structure, Vertical™ is naturally non-settling. In traditional horizontal log building, the natural settlement of wood must be taken into account through structural detailing. In a vertical solid wood structure, this type of settlement between horizontal log courses does not occur.

In the Vertical™ wall structure, the solid wood elements are securely joined together with screw fixings. The result is a stable solid wood wall that enables the clean details and carefully controlled connections characteristic of modern architecture.

This makes Vertical™ particularly well suited to contemporary architecture, where solid wood, expansive glazing, high interiors and refined detailing come together in a seamless whole.

IMPROVED MOISTURE PERFORMANCE IN DEMANDING CONDITIONS

The vertical structure improves the moisture performance of the solid wood wall in particularly demanding weather conditions. On a vertically oriented wood surface, rainwater can naturally run downwards, and the structure does not include horizontal joints between log courses. This provides added protection in locations such as archipelago and coastal areas, as well as other exposed sites where the façade is subject to strong winds, driving rain and rapidly changing weather conditions.

The exterior surface of Vertical™ can be finished either with vertical grooves or as a smooth surface. A grooved finish emphasizes the vertical expression of the building while also guiding rainwater downwards. A smooth finish, in turn, offers a calm and refined alternative for contemporary architecture.

On the interior side, Vertical™ forms a smooth solid wood surface, bringing the natural warmth and material character of wood visibly into the interior.
